Daniel trying to look like the cute little horse in the background ( this was a few years ago but the only picture that I have at the fair on my computer)
This past week the Eastern Idaho State Fair was going on in Blackfoot. I LOVE going to fair each year. It isn't for the rides, or even the food (although I LOVE tiger ear scones!!!) I think it is because of the feelings that I get because of all the memories that I have made going each year. Plus I LOVE to people watch and there are some "great" people to watch at the fair!
Some of the memories that I have (and for my sake want to write down).....
* I remember being able to miss school as a little girl to go down and watch grandpas horses race. One year I think I was in third grade, we went down and I was wearing my black suede boots and my red and black stretch pants with the loops under my feet. It was my favorite outfit at the time even if the pants never fit me quite right. The bum in the pants always hung down to my knees. DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?! Anyway, grandpas horse won and we all got to go out on the field for a picture and my shoes got all dirty from the track and I was so annoyed, but so excited to be in "the picture"
* I remember going as a family and never being able to go on the rides. I thought that I was so picked on. Now I look at the rides and I have no desire to really ride on them.
* The fair pretty much consisted of us going and watching horse races, watching them "show" the horses, and sitting in the barn next to the horses with grandpa and grandma O. To many people this might seem lame, but I LOVE IT.
*Dad would always buy us tiger ears (to share) and an ice cream cone on our way out!
* I did 4-H one year and my place mats that I crocheted were at the fair, I thought that I was the coolest thing ever.
* One year I went with some friends and we rode on some of the rides ( my first time ever) and Ryan Nye threw up all over.
* Going to the Rascall Flatts and Phil Vassar concert. It was awesome! I went with Alisa and Michelle.
* Going to the Brad Paisley concert with Michelle, Aub, Tanner, Andrew and Vince. We might have spent more time looking for nice wrangler rear ends then watching the concert because "cowboy butts drive us nuts"
* Going and working with Lindsey Nield in the bread barn. It would have been so much fun except for the fact that I was passing kidney stones. I was so sick that I had to run out of the "barn" so that I could make it to a garbage can. I found the first garbage can that I could. After I threw up I looked up and realized that I had thrown up right next to a bunch of people that were eating their delicious hamburgers. I probably ruined their whole appetite. Poor Linds had to stop every two minutes on the way home because I was vomiting so much. I ended up going to the emergency room and spending the night there. Morphine soon became my best friend.
* Going to the fair with Daniel the first year we were married and it rained the whole time. It poured rain the whole time so we spent the time dashing from one barn to the next to stay out of the rain. (hence the picture above...)
* Last but not least our latest and greatest adventure at the fair happened this year when we went. We went of Friday afternoon and it was a beautiful day. We walked around and looked at all of the animals and went to the petting zoo. We watched part of a dog show. Thought about going on the rides. Daniel got tricked into playing one of the games. We ate a delicious Tiger Ear and enjoyed watching people and looking around at the booths. We decided that we should head home because family was coming into town and we wanted to see everyone. We were driving home and having a wonderful time when our Gas pump decided to go out. Luckily we were right by the Sunny side exit and so we were able to coast off the exit. Liz and David were luckily behind us so they were able to pull over and help us. THomas and I went home with Liz and the kids while Daniel and David waited for my dad to come and pick them up and tow the car. Although gas pumps aren't the cheapest thing, it all turned out ok and our car should be fixed today. Plus it added another great memory to my "list" of going to the Blackfoot fair.
