WARD CAMPOUT

We quickly packed up after a day at the pool.
We grabbed a pair of pajamas, flashlight, toothbrushes and things to make smores.
Dad put the tent, sleeping bags and air mattress in the car.
We were packed and ready in under 15 minutes.
Record time I tell ya.
We stopped and got dinner at Wendy's.  Is that cheating?
Headed to the beautiful camp sight in Waterford.
Arrived and set up in a few minutes.
The boys soon found their friends.  They caught the cutest mini frogs for hours.  They played in the creek.  They played night games.  They made smores.  They played and played and played.  And played.
We sat around the campfire and talked with good friends.  We attempted phase ten.  We watched the fire flies.  (is that one word)
Our one flashlight didn't work!
Our air mattress had a hole and we were laying on the ground 5 minutes after laying down.
The boys slept well even though we forgot magic.
Thomas woke up bright and early needing to use the restroom.  6 o'clock early.  We were the only ones awake.  We decided to go for a beautiful morning walk down an old country road.  We watched the sun finish rising.  We heard the rooster crowing.  We heard a big old bullfrog croaking in the pond.  We saw 1 million and 3 slugs.  We made sure not to step on any of them.  We held hands.  I love that he will still hold my hand.  We talked about things that 6 year olds like to talk about on early morning walks with their moms.  Things like tractors and slugs.
We got back to camp and helped start breakfast.
Thomas soon found friends and ran off to catch more mini frogs.  Lew and I sat on the swing and cuddled.  It is hard waking up in the morning.
We ate a pancake, egg, hash brown and bacon breakfast.
We had a flag ceremony by the scouts and a few patriotic words by members of the bishopric.
We all cleaned up camp.
We headed to the Bogert's (the dear couple that allows us to use their beautiful property to camp) house to do some service.  We pulled weeds.  Clipped bushes.  Cleaned out ponds.  Mowed lawns.  Visited chickens.  Caught frogs and snakes.  The littles rode in toy cars.
We came home happy and exhausted.   All too ready to take naps.
Oh summer we love you.
